This week's colours are Chocolate Chip, Ruby Red, Summer Sun and Whisper White or Very Vanilla. I have never used Summer Sun in a card before, but I like the combination and have a few more designs running around my mind. I have again used products from the New Spring Mini catalogue. "True Friend" and "One of a kind" stamp sets and "Apple Cider" Designer Series Paper. The flower image is stamped using Ruby Red ink and then cut out with the great SU paper snips. A clear round rhinestone brad from the Pretties kit completes the flower. I used dimensionals to give the flower a 3D look. The scalloped edge on the Summer Sun cardstock was created by using the corner rounder punch. Whisper White grosgrain ribbon finishes the layout. Again I have cased Dawn Easton's blog and used a Mojo Monday sketch for this card.
I am really pleased with my effort and the best part was the card only took 10 minutes to create.
I hope you like my challenge efforts. The hostess loved pinks and greens and feel in love with the 6 x 6 Desktop Calender, (see past post). I feel that this layout fits well with the second tissue box.

I have used Old Olive card stock and created my own printed paper using Very Vanilla cardstock and the So Swirly Jumbo Wheel with Old Olive ink. Pretty in Pink and Certainly Celery pastels were used for highlighting. The butterfly and message are stamped in Rose Red ink and are from the Priceless stamp set. The Flower in the corner is from the Pretties Kit and coloured using reinkers and a aqua brush. A pink Rhinestone brad finishes the flowers so well.

The photo of my beautiful niece Beth is layered onto Rose Red Cardstock.

I have one more challenge to do before I can go and watch the Wallabies beat the All Blacks :)

Cath

Mad Inkstincts Team Challenge - 1st Card

My wonderful Manager Madonna has set our team a couple of challenges to help the creative juices flowing. I came home this afternoon to an empty house and thought Woohoo take the chance to create.

The challenge was to create a card or scrap page using the colours or layout from the photo of the above tissue boxes. I used a design from a sketch challenge from Dawn Easton's blog. The base of the card is River Rock and I layered some of the latest Designer Series Paper called "Apple Cider", this coordinates perfectly with the Stamped image from the stamp set "True Friend".Both products are from the new Spring Mini Catalogue, (email me at mickcath5@activ8.net.au if you would like a copy of the mini and I will get it to you asap.) The green designer series paper, also from "Apple Cider" was layered onto Ruby Red Cardstock and both of these were punched using SU square punches. The flower image from "True Friend" is stamped with River Rock ink on Whisper White card stock, with River Rock ink sponged to give the image some depth. I finished the card with "Wild Wasabi" stitched ribbon. I'm happy with the colours not to sure about the layout. Definately out of my comfort zone.

Cheers Cath :)

Kristie's Colour Challenge

My SU sister Kristie Morrison has issued us with a challenge to create a card from a photo of a Magnolia tree that she walks past every day. This is my first attempt.

I have used Very Vanilla for the card with a Mellow Moss layer. The main image is using the Carte Postal Stamp set and I have coloured the stamp using SU's fantastic soft subtles markers. I can't praise the markers enough - you can do so much with them. Colour images, journalling and the Direct to rubber technique that I used here, to name a few. I coloured the stamp with the Mellow Moss marker for the leaves and stem and the Pretty in Pink marker for the flowers. For the middle of the flowers I used a blender pen and the ink from the Purely Pomegranate Stamp Pad. You pool the ink in the lid of the stamp pad by pressing on the lid and then pick up the ink with a blender pen. To stamp you simply breathe onto the inked image to remoisten the ink before stamping onto the cardstock. The image was layered onto Pretty in Pink and the message in the middle was layered onto Mellow Moss cardstock. For finishing touches I used the small flowers from the Pretties Kit and again using my Pretty in Pink marker I coloured the flowers and used the blender pen to add some Purely Pomegranate ink. Fire Rhinestone brads were added to the flowers for a bit of bling. Very Vanilla and Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon finished the card.

What do you think? I'll be back over the weekend to add some more images and my Upline Madonna also has set a challenge for our team.

Have a great weekend.

Cathie :)

So Swirly 6 x 6 Calender

During our SU Convention in Brisbane this year we were shown how easy it is to create our own printed cardstock for scrapping and cardmaking etc. I couldn't wait to try it out and here is one of the pages that I made. Here is my wonderful family - my darling hubby Mick, Michael 19, Andrew 3 and me (Cath), Thomas 17, Matthew 13 and James 12. (I am so lucky - surrounded myself with good looking men :))

This is a page from my SU Desktop Calender. It is so easy to make, each month is a 6 x 6 page. At the end of the year you just tear the pages off and make them into a 6 x 6 album or add them to a 12 x 12 layout.

I used the So Swirly Jumbo Roller with Night of Navy Ink and rolled this diagonally over Whisper White 12 x 12 Cardstock (the tip is rolling diagonally is more forgiving then horizontally) Then using daubers I highlighted areas with my SU Pastel chalks. After I cut the 12 x 12 sheet down to strips, squares and rectangles I had fun creating my 6 x 6 layouts for the calendar. I had heaps of my printed cardstock left for other projects. I decided to use a monochromatic colour scheme and used Brocade Blue for the layering. The matching Stamp set Priceless helped add embellishments to each page. The Brocade blue butterfly in the corner was stamped on a piece of scrap cardstock and then cut out with SU paper snips and added with a Stampin Dimensional. I also used the new SU Rub ons for the Title.

Bronc Buster 'His and Her's'

I absolutely love the Bronc Buster stamp set and I tend to use it all the time. We live on a farm and Warwick is famous for it's Rodeo, so this was a must have on my wish list when the new catty came out. I have used the Faux Tiling technique. Alisa Tilsner and Angela Sargent have Technique of the Month Tutorials, I purchased one a few months back and never got the chance to play with it. I am really happy with the result and will be using this technique alot, especially for my cards that I make for up coming Markets etc.

The 'His' card is using Night of Navy, Brocade Blue, Really Rust and Very Vanilla Cardstock. The image is stamped with Night of Navy Classic Ink and then scored for the faux tiling effect. Versamark ink is stamped over the stamped cardstock.Pour clear embossing powder over the cardstock and heat with a SU Heating Tool. Some layering, a few brads, piece of Very Vanilla Ribbon and a sentiment from the Sincere Salutations Stamp Set and there you have it. I will be using this design for my Father's Day Card Classes, so stay tuned for further details.

The 'Her's' card is my favourite of the two. I'm not usually a pink person, but lately Rose Red and Regal Rose keep finding there way onto my cards. Same technique as before. Rose Red, Regal Rose, Garden Green and Very Vanilla Cardstock. Layering, some beautiful SU 5/8" Regal Rose Grosgrain ribbon and Pretty in Pink Taffeta ribbon and there you go.

If you would any more information on making these cards or to purchase any of the SU products that I have used please contact me at mickcath5@activ8.net.au.

Cheers

Cath :)

Get Well Cards

These are some of the amazing cards that I have received in the last 12 days. I recently had a back operation and my 12 yo son James had a bad trail bike accident (we are very lucky to still have him with us), so needless to say I have been feeling a little blue and sorry for myself.
I must say that a handmade card, really lifts you when you need it. The first card is from the talented Kristie Morrison. Kristie is my 'SU sister'. The Dahlia fold flower is awesome and will be trying that out as soon as I am well enough.

The second card was from my 'SU Granny' Alisa Tilsner. Alisa is also very talented and her work is amazing. The card speaks for itself. The flowers are all cut out and layered with dimensionals for a amazing 3D effect. (Just ignore the date stamp, when I work out how to get rid of it - I shall. Will wait until the 17 yo comes home. :))
Next another card from another "SU Sister' Tanya. Again the card speak for itself. Beautiful clean images and the colour combination was fantastic. This next card was done by a lovely little friend of mine Melissa. She is 13 years old and the nicest teenager I have ever meet. Melissa has stole the heart of my 3 yo son Andrew and he tells me that he will marry 'Lissa' one day. Couldn't resist showing the card off.
And last but not least is the first card I received one day after my operation. My 'SU Mother" the lovely Madonna "MAD", came to visit me just after I was released from hospital. Mad made me this card, brought me a lovely plant and heaps of new scrapbooking magazines.

It was great catching up with Mad as I havent seen her since Convention in April. As always Mad's infectious love of life was very catching and Mad made me feel amazing. After nearly two hours I was very tired and I dont think either of us stopped talking the whole time. DH Mick was very clever - he went shopping for two hours.

I loved the card that much that I came home and ordered the Designer Series Paper that Mad used. Its so fresh. Hope you liked my Get well cards as much as I do.
Cheers Cath :)

My First Post

Hello everyone.
